I have uploaded image of Boer (2009) which is part of a series of new pieces which I have been working on recently. A simple cardboard and wooden construct, Boer uses its materiality and the spatial relationship with its surroundings to create a simplistic tension. The carved wooden beam protrudes from the wall, becoming an extension from the wall and dictating its own terms in the space. The employment of cardboard within the work is something I have been exploring recently. Here it acts as a plain with streaks of gloss paint. The title is a play on the tension within the work and the former Dutch colonial region of Africa, commenting on physical re-positioning.
