London

I was down in London this weekend to gorge on all things art in a two day gluttonous visual feast. I attempted to live blog on the shows that I saw immediately after I left the venue. Due to lack of free WiFi access and a chance encounter, I only managed to record two in the cafe of the ICA. I do have pages of notes that I am in the process of writing up. I will be posting my thoughts on various shows including British Art Show 7 and the disappointing Modern British Sculpture over the next couple of days.

I was also down in London on the same day as 500,000 other people who attended the ‘march for the alternative’ a rally to oppose the cuts. Whilst joining the throngs of people near Embankment, the need to fit in trips to the Hayward and the Barbican before an early afternoon train limited my involvement. It was certainly inspiring seeing such a vast array of people from a wide range of professions marching against the cuts. Each person will have have been fueled by their own experience of the cuts and to see the sea of banners, colours and comradery brought home the impact of this measures. As I entered the Hayward to the backdrop of the procession moving slowly along the other side of the river, I did feel a tinge of regret that I wasn’t getting involved more actively.
