Thoughts…

Things that are currently on my mind in no particular order or sense:

–Objects bought to serve a purpose i.e furniture/It’s role as a domestic entity/the objects intrinsic relationship to the owner, past & present/craftsmanship levels between new and old furniture/critical writing/the hand made VS the machine flat pack/the durational aspects of artwork/can it be preserved?/should it be preserved?/steps to ensure preservation/steps to accelerate destruction/magazine editing/manipulation of the aging process/interference in the making process handing the advantage to either side through material and processed based choices/ materiality/choice of materials in work/size and storage of sculpture works – informs lifespan, dictated by current workload, exhibitions and successes/need for studio space?/need new computer/other forms of work?/methods and conceptions of executing artwork/Modernist sculptural devices/mixed media sculptural projects/position of artist who works/the successful balancing of paid and art work/the detrimental effect to artwork/Writing and text based works/drawing/illustration/sculpture/next exhibition at Arena/putting the kettle on–

Open Studio Trauma

Monday, September 28th, 2009

For The Long Night (an event in Liverpool where the majority of cultural organisations extended their opening hours and programmed events to a agreed date), Arena opened our doors for an open studio event. This can be translated as tidying up and most of the class being in attendance.

Arena has been a long standing champion of the open studio format, offering the public the chance to view the artist in their primal habitat. Where as this is an enjoyable experience for visitors for the home team, it can be deemed as traumatic. I deteste tidying my studio space. I can only imagine Takashi Murakami’s clinical white studio as I move wood and dirt into a corner, consealed by more wood…

Brussels

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Was in Brussels last week. Great architecture (and beer) and managed to catch the end of Jan De Cock exhibition at BOZAR. Great sculptural works with a rich context and execution. He has received quite alot of acclaim recently but I suggest that it is deserved. His previous work is also worth a Google search.

Will be uploading new works this month.
