Attended an interesting debate at the Bluecoat this evening focusing on studio life in Liverpool today. Featuring leading artists from Red Wire, The Royal Standard and Tony Smith from Arena, the talks and following discussion touched on each groups own contribution to the Liverpool scene in recent history. What was intriguing was each groups unique stance in regards to their artistic vision and overall direction. The lively discussion covered topics from core funding to the perennial objective of identifying and enticing a receptive audience. It was evident that after a collectively exhausting output in the Capital of Culture year, the next year will be crucial to defining a new direction not only in Liverpool, but for local artist studio groups.
